Alzheimer's Association Looks to Record Life Stories

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - The Alzheimer's Association is looking to record the life stories of those living with the disease in Maine.

Spokesman Adam Lacher tells Foster's Daily Democrat  that a Volunteer Scribes program will pair University of New Hampshire and Marshwood High School students in South Berwick with someone living with Alzheimer's disease to interview them and write their story.

Lacher says many of the students are studying psychology and social work and the disease allows those with Alzheimer's to take on the role of the teacher to show students what the disease really is.

About 26,000 people in Maine are living with the disease.

There's an information session about the program on Wednesday morning at the South Berwick Public Library.
