SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A married couple who built a one-room house on wheels is looking for a place to put it in Maine.
Tommy and Dewey Reen tell the Portland Press Herald they want to live in either South Portland or Cape Elizabeth. But code regulations prohibit long-term tiny home stays in Maine.
RVs are prohibited as permanent houses in Cape Elizabeth, and can only be occupied for up to three nights in a 30-day period.
In South Portland, tiny homes can only stay longer than 14 days if they're placed on a foundation and the lot meets specific size and zoning requirements.
Tommy Reen says the couple is going to work with local officials wherever they end up and try to get codes changed to make their lifestyle legal.
