Family Mourns Garland Man Killed in Afghanistan Car Bombing

GARLAND, Maine — The family of a private contractor from Maine killed in Afghanistan over the weekend is mourning the loss of someone they describe as a "family man" and a "true American hero."

Former policeman Corey Dodge of Garland died on Saturday in Kabul when the vehicle he was in was blown up by a car bomb.

His widow, Kelli Dodge, says Corey had been to Afghanistan several times over the last nine years and was hoping to make this his final tour.

Corey Dodge had been due to return home in October.

"He loved his family and his country and loved doing what he did, trying to make a difference," Kelli Dodge says.

She says she'll fly to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Tuesday to meet her husband's body.
