Collins Pays Tribute to Veterans, Including her Father
WASHINGTON - Maine Sen. Susan Collins paid tribute to veterans - including her father Don - in a speech on the Senate floor earlier this week.
Collins said when she was a child her father would take her to Veterans' Day parades and lift her to his shoulders so she could see the veterans march by.
"He taught me of their sacrifice and that we have a never-ending obligation to thank those who wore the uniform of our country," she said.
Don Collins is a World War II decorated veteran who was wounded twice in the Battle of the Bulge, Collins said. He also served several terms in the Maine Legislature. Collins said her father's service to the public is typical of many veterans.
