Search Suspended for Missing Water Taxi, Captain in Portland

PORTLAND, Maine - The Maine Marine Patrol and Coast Guard have ended the search for a Cape Elizabeth man and his Portland-based water taxi that was described as unsinkable by its owner.

Portland Express Water Taxi owner Gene Willard tells the Portland Press Herald that the boat won't sink even if gets swamped because it has foam in the hull. But the search was suspended Thursday at nightfall after a search by air and sea failed to find any sign of the 24-foot boat.

Officials say video surveillance cameras showed Adam Patterson leaving at 3:25 a.m. Wednesday.

The Maine Marine Patrol said it will continue to look for Patterson and the water taxi as part of its routine patrols, but has suspended the search to locate him.
