AUGUSTA, Maine - The Maine attorney general says a York police detective who fatally shot a Cape Neddick woman last year did so in self-defense.
The shooting happened last Dec. 4 in South Berwick. The nurse manager of a Kittery medical practice called 911 to report that 55-year-old Karin Moller was threatening to kill herself at her residence. Attorney General Janet Mills reports that two York officers responded to the call with the intention of taking Moller into protective custody.
The report states that Moller then left her home and drove over a spiked mat that police had laid nearby. Moller got out of her vehicle armed with a handgun which she pointed at the two officers, both of whom fired at her. Moller died at a trauma center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
