GOP Committee Treasurer Resigns After $8K Reported Missing

LEWISTON, Maine - A Maine Republican committee treasurer has resigned from his position after $8,000 was discovered missing from the committee's bank account.

The Sun Journal reports that Mark Ramsay of Lisbon Falls had served as treasurer for the Androscoggin County Republican Committee for about two years before resigning Dec. 1.

State committeeman and Executive Committee member Michael Marcotte says the money has been repaid.

Executive Committee member Jason Greene says a motion will be made to remove Chairman Stavros Mendros for failing to properly oversee the committee's finances.

Greene says Mendros had known about the missing money since Nov. 20 and didn't inform members until more than a week later.

Mendros says he was advised not to tell anyone until he could meet with Ramsey, which he claims he tried to do.
