PORTLAND, Maine - The Sugarloaf ski resort in Carrabassett Valley is taking advantage of cold weather's return to Maine. Resort spokesperson Noelle Tuttle says, for the first time in its history, Sugarloaf is making snow in April.
"It's been a very challenging winter, in terms of weather, and we've taken every opportunity Mother Nature has thrown at us to blow snow," Tuttle says. "So as soon as we had a window in April, we took it."
Tuttle says because the resort got a lot less natural snow this year than usual, Sugarloaf has almost doubled what it makes in a typical season. She says the mountain will be open through the resort's Reggae Fest, which is scheduled for April 14 - 17, and beyond if conditions permit.
