Standish Man Dead, Wife Severely Injured in Crash

STANDISH, Maine _ A Standish man is dead and his wife is in the hospital with serious, life threatening injuries, following a motor vehicle crash late Saturday night.

Donald Goulet of the Cumberland County sheriff's office says 84 year old Arthur Ames of Standish was killed when he pulled out into the path of a vehicle driven by Samantha Woodbrey, 19, of Cornish.

The crash at the intersection of Rte. 25 and Manchester Road in Standish, closed down traffic for number of hours. Ames' 85 year old wife, Evangeline, was still listed in critical condition at Maine Medical Center as of 9 AM Sunday morning.

Investigation into the crash is ongoing, but authorities say neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been factors.
