A few hundred Mainers rallied outside of Portland City Hall Saturday afternoon in a March for Truth, calling for an independent investigation into President Donald Trump’s possible ties to Russia. Many attendees also expressed concerns about Trump’s policies.
David Simpson of Peaks Island says he’s disturbed that the president backed out of the Paris Climate Accord.
“The climate is changing, the climate is warming, and it’s human caused, and we can do something about it,” he says.
Deborah Whitney of York says Americans also deserve the truth about other Trump policies.
“I think we need full transparency on this health care that they’re lying to us about. I think the budget is a joke that they want to propose. There’s not one thing since January that’s helping anybody in this country,” she says.
“I came here today because it’s extremely important that our leaders, and it shouldn’t matter, regardless of what political party you’re a part of, that they tell the truth. That we can trust they’re working in our best interests, American citizens’ best interests,” says David Paye of Portland.
Mary Howard from York says Americans needs to hold the president accountable.
“I think a lot of us have been blind to some of the proposals that he’s made, and just taking his word as the truth, when they’re actually lies,” she says.
The March for Truth in Portland was one of dozens of rallies across the U.S. on Saturday.
