PORTLAND, Maine - Officials say a deteriorated landfill may delay a plan to install more than 3,000 solar panels in Maine.
WGME-TV reports Portland officials are looking into doing major work at the Ocean Ave. Landfill before the panels are installed.
The 4-acre landfill closed in the 1970s and was capped in the 1990s, but nearby residents say trash could be seeping into the ground.
The city had planned to install the panels at the landfill by the end of the year. Now, officials say they are working with the Department of Environmental Protection to add vents and soil to the area.
Officials have not said how long the work will delay the project.
