HANCOCK, Maine - A Maine railroad company is undertaking heavy restoration for an iconic locomotive.
Maine Central Locomotive was retired in 1954, and had languished in a Waterville park for more than 60 years before it was purchased by the New England Steam Corporation. WABI-TV reports the locomotive was moved to a park in Hancock, and Downeast Scenic Railroad is now attempting to raise $100,000 for major repairs.
The repairs seek to rebuild the frame and trucks, as well as replace the damaged body of the train.
Downeast says all donations will go directly toward the locomotive's restoration.
