In an effort to alleviate some of the back ups that occur on a very busy stretch of I-295, the Maine Department of Transportation is providing Service Patrols from Exit 22 in Freeport to Exit 1 in Scarborough.
The patrols will remove vehicles and large debris from the roadway, provide motorists with up to a gallon of fuel, change or inflate tires, provide jump starts and assist stranded motorists with a ride or a phone call. DOT spokesperson Ted Talbot.
“This is a free service that we are going to be providing to the public, to try to really help alleviate some of the congestion along 295 when there's an incident.”
Talbot says the state isn't trying to infringe on AAA or other motor clubs, rather it's an effort to address congestion there on 295. Talbot says DOT has contracted with AutoBase to provide the safety service patrols, the same private company used by the Maine Turnpike Authority.
The new service begins Monday.
