The first part of a wintry one-two punch is creating a messy commute across northern New England, but forecasters are more worried about a bigger storm on Wednesday. The storm that hit on Tuesday didn't pack a ton of snow, but the timing made for a slow drive to work in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Slick roads led to multiple accidents, and some schools were delayed or even canceled.
Meteorologist Eric Schwibs said the snow was tapering off by late morning with some light rain or freezing rain anticipated.
Forecasters anticipate a more intense storm for Wednesday. He said the new storm will start with rain or freezing rain before the arrival of a band of heavy snow, creating difficulty for the evening commute on Wednesday.
