Auburn Teachers And Parents To Hold 'Stand-In' To Oppose District's Reopening Plan

Teachers and parents in Auburn are holding a “stand- in” at the city school committee meeting Wednesday at 5:30 to oppose the district's reopening plan.

Second grade teacher Bree Crocker, who is vice President of the Auburn Education Association, says teachers and administrators spent months developing a plan that would have split grades three through 12 into cohort groups that attend school just two days a week.

But last week, the school committee adopted a proposal that would allow students in those grades the option to attend school four days a week.

"Now we're creating intermingling amongst the group, which is going to lead to spreading COVID if a case took off in our school."

Crocker says she is hopeful that the Auburn School Committee will reconsider its decision at tonight's meeting, which begins at 6:00.
