Maine Secretary of State Conducts Vote Recounts

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine's secretary of state is overseeing recounts of close legislative primary races.

Matthew Dunlap will supervise a recount on Thursday for the Democratic primary for the state senate seat for District 33 in York County. In that race, Sen. John Tuttle was reported receiving 841 votes to Rep. Andrea Bolland's 821 votes.

In the recount on Wednesday for the Democratic primary for House District 50, which encompasses part of Brunswick, Ralph Tucker was declared the winner over Jacqueline Sartoris. Tucker received 442 votes and Sartoris 432.

Maine candidates who appear to have lost can seek a recount within five days of the election. Candidates' teams count the ballots and are supervised by the secretary of state at the department of public safety headquarters in Augusta.
