Westbrook City Councilor Says He'll Apologize to Governor

SCARBOROUGH, Maine - A Westbrook city councilor says he lost sleep after commenting that he wouldn't be bothered if Gov. Paul LePage "went to see his maker."

Paul Emery made his controversial remarks - which also included a reference to assassination - at a public forum Tuesday night.  Emery says his comments were inappropriate, and he plans to apologize to the governor.

"I went home. I lost sleep on it.  So this morning, talking to several close friends, I said, "All right, here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to call the governor and offer my apology - in other worlds, man up. You make a mistake, you acknowledge it, and you don't try to hide it."

Emery said he was tired after attending meetings and appointments Monday and Tuesday. He says he's sorry if he offended the residents of Westbrook, but that he has no intention of resigning from the city council. Emery says his future on the panel will be decided during elections this November, if he chooses to run again.
