Canadians vote Monday in a national, parliamentary election.
The incumbent conservatives, led by Prime Minister Steven Harper, are, according to polls, facing a strong challenge from the Liberals, led by former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau's son Justin, and the New Democratic Party, with its prime minister candidate Tom Mulcair.
For a closer look, Irwin Gratz spoke with Jacques Poitras, a provincial affairs reporter for the CBC based in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
He says the length of this campaign, 11 weeks since Harper called the election in August, has allowed multiple issues to surface.
