AUGUSTA, Maine — Senate President Mike Thibodeau has written Gov. Paul LePage assuring him that support to add ten more drug agents will be part of draft comprehensive bill legislative leaders will unveil at a State House news conference Wednesday.
He says addressing the drug crisis is on the fast track.
"Actually we may be even able to have the public hearing before we reconvene the Legislature and that first week this be something we can process through," he says.
Thibodeau says the draft legislation will address the need for more enforcement, additional treatment and efforts to prevent addiction in the first place. He says more than one committee may hold hearings on portions of the plan before the Appropriations committee tackles the chore of figuring out how to pay for it.
"They will have a public hearing, they will work the bill, send it back to the Appropriations Committee who will hopefully be able to take action quickly get it up on the floor and get it passed so the governor can sign it," Thibodeau says.
