King Calls Trump's Comments On Rep. Tlaib An 'Overstepping Of The Executive Function'

Maine Senator Angus King says he believes President Trump has gone too far by urging Israel to bar Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and fellow Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar from entering that country.

“Unprecedented, as far as I know, and, particularly, to be telling another country not to let in a lawmaker from our country, it doesn’t make sense,” says King. “And I think it is an overstepping of the executive function.”

King says the president does not understand the separation of powers and that this dangerous precedent could make it more difficult for lawmakers to do their job.

“Members of Congress travel all the time, and it is very important to our being able to do our job adequately. And to impede that is, I think, a breach of separation of powers, number one, and number two it is hurting Congress’s ability to do its job,” King says.
