Maine U.S. Sen. Angus King is criticizing Kentucky colleague Rand Paul for urging the news media to reveal the name of the whistleblower that triggered the impeachment investigation of President Trump.King told CNN that Paul knows the name of the whistleblower, which is confidential information under the law, and blasted comments Paul made at a rally for Trump.
“I’m a pretty mild-mannered guy but this one just is infuriating," King said. "And, again, to go back to the beginning, it doesn’t matter - it doesn’t matter who this person is. All they did was report what they were hearing, and know we have heard from the very people that can confirm those charges.”
King said the whistleblower’s account of the phone call between Trump and the president of Ukraine has been verified by others, and that Paul is trying to divert attention away from the serious allegations directed at the president.
“It’s deeply troubling and really disappointing," King said.
