11-Year-Old Charged With Setting Fires In Maine School

A Maine elementary school is closed for the day because of a pair of fires that were allegedly set by a student.

Officials say an 11-year-old girl was charged with arson following the fires Tuesday in Paris, Maine. One fire on the school's main floor, in a girls' bathroom, burned itself out; a second fire in the fifth- and sixth-grade girls' bathroom caused damage on the building's lower level.

Faculty pulled the fire alarm and students were safely evacuated.

School workers wanted to repair the damage and clean away the soot before students return. The student facing charges was released to the custody of her parents.
