$5M From Feds To Help Rural Bus Service In Maine

Bus systems in the state of Maine, especially those in rural areas, will receive more than $5 million for a battery of improvements.

The U.S. Department of Transportation says the grants will modernize and improve bus services in the state. The money is part of more than $366 million in grants that is headed to bus systems around the country.

A little more than $2.2 million is going to the Maine Department of Transportation to replace rural buses around the state. Nearly $2.9 million will go to the city of Bangor to replace buses operating on the city's fixed route.

The federal transportation department says both grants will help make bus service more reliable and cost effective.
