Bowdoin College Building State's Largest Solar Installation

Bowdoin College is constructing what it says is the largest solar installation in the state. The school has already broken ground on the complex, which officials say is seven times the size of the state's largest existing solar installation.

The project consists of five different solar installations, including a 700-kilowatt array on land at the former Brunswick Naval Air station that's owned by the college.

The other four installations will include rooftop systems on the Farley Field House, the Sidney J. Watson Arena, Greason Pool and a residence hall on Harspwell Road.

"Our college is proud to be moving forward with this significant investment in clean and renewable solar energy," says Bowdoin President Barry Mills, in a statement.

Overall, the installation will include about 4,500 solar panels.  Learn more about the project.
