Colby College Students Begin Moving Into Downtown Dormitory

WATERVILLE, Maine - Students and faculty who have moved into a new mixed-unit Colby College building in Maine say they are excited to work with the community.Classes at the college will begin on Sept. 5, while move-in is on Labor Day. The Morning Sentinel reports a total of 197 students will live in the new $25.5 million Bill and Joan Alfond Main Street Commons residential complex in Waterville after move-in day.
 
The college is implementing a Program for Engagement and Community Partnerships in which students will work with municipal departments and nonprofit organizations to learn and help solve challenges and problems in the Waterville community.
 
College Dean Karlene Burrell-McRae says over 250 junior and senior students applied for the downtown program and 197 were chosen.
