BRUNSWICK, Maine — Bowdoin College officials say 14 members of the school's lacrosse team will face disciplinary action after dressing as Native Americans at an off-campus party.
The Portland Press Herald reports Thursday that the school's Dean of Student Affairs, Tim Foster, sent out a campuswide email this week explaining the incident.
Foster said that while wearing a headdress and war paint might seem like "harmless fun," to some people, for others it is demeaning and perpetuates hurtful stereotypes.
The newspaper reports the party, jokingly referred to as "cracksgiving," was hosted by some players in November at their off-campus residence. An invitation urged guests to wear their "finest Thanksgiving attire."
A college spokesman said the students could face a range of disciplinary actions.
The team's coach says the players have apologized.
