Continued Snowfall Could Bring Several Inches To Northern Maine

A foot of snow fell Monday night from the western mountains east to greater Portland.

Some parts of southwestern Maine got up to 14 inches of snow Monday night. Snow there should be wrapping up this afternoon, but national weather service meteorologist Todd Foisy in Caribou says snow in northern Maine is just getting started.

“It's snowing good, it's not much so far but we've got a lot left to go in northern Maine, which is pretty interesting because it's been going on for a long time in western Maine,” he says. “It's just a very slow-moving storm system.”

About 1-4 inches of snow have fallen Down East, but Foisy says it's expected to mostly be a mix of snow and sleet for the rest of the afternoon there, with not much more than an inch or so more of accumulation.

The storm has caused several accidents, and speed limits on the turnpike remain at 45 miles per hour. State and legislative offices are closed for the day.
