Dozens Of Maine's Small Businesses Owners Urge Governor To Maintain 14-Day Visitor Quarantine

More than 80 Maine small business owners in southern Maine are calling for the governor to continue enforcing a 14-day quarantine for people entering the state. In a letter to Gov. Janet Mils and her new Economic Recovery Committee, the businesses owners have a simple message - the quarantine is the only reason they feel safe reopening at all.

"The travel quarantine is one of the only protections we feel allows us a fighting chance to maintain our low case numbers and to protect our workers and ourselves,” they write.

The group includes restaurant and retail store owners whose businesses specialize in a range of goods from flowers to clothing, and employ fewer than 10 people.

They say any increase in coronavirus cases caused by easing restrictions could force their businesses to shut down again and remain closed throughout the summer.
