An 82-year-old man was attacked in his front yard Sunday in the town of Scarborough and later died at a hospital, Maine State Police said.
James Pearson was attacked at about 8:15 a.m.
Police say Pearson was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police did not say how Pearson was injured or suggest a motive for the attack.
Residents are being asked by police to maintain awareness of their surroundings and to report to police any unusual activities.
State police and Scarborough officers are investigating and processing the crime scene.
