Farming Workshops Coming for Spring

UNION, Maine (AP) _ A series of central Maine workshops geared for beginning farmers will focus on everything from obtaining organic certification to creating better environments for pollinators.

Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District is organizing the workshops, along with Maine Natural Resources Conservation Service. They will take place in March, April and July.

The first session is scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, at the Vose Library in Union and is entitled ``Extending the Season: Greenhouses, Year-round Crops, & Maintaining Fertility.''

Future sessions will focus on issues such as manure storage, pesticide application and improving soil health. Most of the workshops are free.
