WILTON, Maine - A Farmington man died Tuesday after diving from his pontoon boat into Wilson Lake in Wilton.

The Maine Warden Service says Jeffrey Mitchell, 63, was struggling when he surfaced. A friend he was boating with, and other boaters nearby, managed to get Mitchell out of the water.

They transported him to a nearby boat landing, where they were met by medical personnel who had been called to the scene at about 4:36 p.m.

Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say floatation devices were on board the pontoon boat, but Mitchell wasn't using them.

The incident remains under investigation.
