FREEPORT, Maine — Women collectively known as the "Freeport Flag Ladies" are continuing their practice of holding an afternoon 9/11 memorial despite the rejection of their restraining order request against a man critical of their demonstrations.
The Portland Press Herald reports the flag ladies returned to the corner of School and Main streets in Freeport Tuesday, a day after a West Bath judge declined to extend a protection from harassment order against James Roux Jr.
Three women testified Monday that Roux made them fear for their safety. Judge Beth Dobson ruled that there wasn't enough evidence of intimidation.
The flag ladies have been waving American flags at the intersection every Tuesday since the Sept. 11 attacks.
Roux says the memorial service focuses too much on the military and not 9/11 victims.
