A health access group in Maine is providing more than $250,000 to support rural health services in the state.
The Maine Health Access Foundation says it's providing the money in the form of Rural Health Transformation Grants to help pay for projects in Franklin, Hancock, Oxford and Somerset counties. The group says the money is designed to support programs that improve access to "non-traditional health services." It says that includes social service supports.
Almost two thirds of Maine's population lives in rural areas. The group says the population has suffered from the closure of rural health facilities.
The grant recipients are Healthy Community Coalition in Farmington, Healthy Peninsula in Blue Hill, Oxford County Mental Health Services in Rumford and Penobscot Community Health Care in Jackman.
