Jay Paper Mill Announces More Layoffs

Pixelle Specialty Solutions has announced the layoffs of another 51 people at its paper mill in Jay.

That is after laying off 59 workers in July, with more reductions expected.

The mill is still recovering from a massive explosion in April that destroyed the pulp side of its operations. Pixelle restarted two of the three paper machines in Jay a week after the explosion, using pulp from other Pixelle operations and third-party suppliers.

In a statement Pixelle said details of subsequent reductions will come after the company completes its evaluation of operating options and finalizes its long-term strategy.
