Maine U.S. Sen. Angus King is expressing surprise and concern at the lack of communication between President Trump and the military commanders in the Mideast. At a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Capitol Hill, King heard from Gen. Joseph Votel, Commander of United States Central Command, that he had not heard from the President before the announcement of the plan to withdraw troops from Syria.
"You weren’t consulted before that decision was made?" King asked Gen. Votel.
"We were not, I was not consulted," Gen. Votel replied.
King says he is worried that Kurdish fighters that have supported the United States will be attacked by Turkey if troops are withdrawn, and that the move will increase instability in the region.
