Lewiston Standoff Reportedly Resolved, Though Road Remains Closed

A standoff outside a Lewiston apartment building has reportedly been resolved, though police remain on the scene, according to the Lewiston Sun Journal.

In a statement, Lewiston police said, "Several calls reporting gun shots and fighting were received beginning just minutes before 3:00 am this (Saturday) morning. Officers immediately responded to learn some of those involved had fled into an apartment building at 21 Walnut St. and surrounded the building."

Parts of the apartment building were evacuated, and a section of Walnut Street is still closed to traffic from Bates Street to at least Pierce Street, and will remain that way for some time, police say.

News Center Mainereported that two people were led out of an apartment building and placed in handcuffs.

Police say they will share more details with the public later in the day.
 

The Maine State Police Tactical Team responded also responded to assist the Lewiston PD.
