The Maine Center for Disease Control says another 34 cases of COVID-19 have been detected in Maine since Wednesday, bringing the total number diagnosed in the state since the pandemic's onset to 3,328. The number of deaths remains at 105, a figure that hasn't changed since June 26.Most of the new cases — 23 out of the 34 — are in Cumberland County. A total of 2,698 people have recovered from the virus, a jump of 27 since Wednesday. That leaves the number of active cases in Maine at 525, seven more than Wednesday.
The number of people who have had to be hospitalized at some point during their illness increased by three to 354. Thirty Mainers are currently hospitalized, nine of them in intensive care. Three are on ventilators.
Maine's new cases come a day after Gov. Janet Mills announced that beginning Friday the state will allow residents of Connecticut, New York and New Jersey to visit Maine without quarantining or getting tested for the virus, something residents of New Hamphsire and Vermont are already allowed to do.
At Wednesday's CDC briefing, Mills said if coronavirus cases surge, Maine could reconsider those steps and other reopening measures.
The Maine CDC's next briefing on the coronavirus is scheduled for Monday, July 6.
