Maine Extends Expiration Date For Licenses And State ID Cards, As BMV Offices Begin To Reopen

Maine has extended the expiration dates of driver's licenses and state I.D. cards to Aug. 9.  Secretary of State Matt Dunlap says Bureau of Motor Vehicles offices are now beginning to tackle that backlog of renewals."Assuming that the declared, civil emergency ends on July 9, you'll have 30 days to then get to the branch office and get that renewal done, or online, if you're eligible," Dunlap says. "So we're just reminding people you really ought to get that taken care of sooner rather than later."

You can renew online if your information hasn't changed and you don't require an eye test.  Dunlap says you will need an appointment to visit an office, and masks will be required.

For now, the state isn't processing requests for Real I-D compliant licenses. The deadline for those has been pushed into late 2021.
