Maine Google Barge Soon to Ship Out

PORTLAND, Maine — Google's barge in Portland, Maine, is on the move, but the mysterious structure's destination is unclear.

The Portland Press Herald reports the four-story barge moved to South Portland on Wednesday. The owner of the cargo terminal where the barge is docked tells the paper an "international barging company" purchased the barge and it and is soon leaving Portland for an "ocean voyage."

The barge first docked in Portland Harbor in October. The Press Herald reported in December the barge would be one of three floating luxury showrooms Google planned to launch in San Francisco, New York City and Los Angeles.

Portland's Google barge is untouched since first being hauled into Portland Harbor by tugboat on Oct. 10.

Google did not return a phone call seeking comment.
