Maine Medical Center to Launch Preventive Medicine Residency

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ The federal government has given Maine's largest hospital a grant to start a new residency program in preventive medicine.

The Health Resources and Services Administration is providing Maine Medical Center with up to $950,000 over the next three years to launch the program. The Portland hospital says the program will educate two residents in each class over a two-year program and it will focus on public health and leadership.

Participants in the program will have a chance to earn a master of public health degree and board certification in preventive medicine.

The hospital says its preventive medicine program has received initial accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
