Maine Police Review Death of Inmate at Correctional Center

WINDHAM, Maine - The Maine Department of Corrections says state police are reviewing the death of a prisoner at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham.

The department says 67-year-old Robert Lewis died early on Tuesday. He was serving a three-year sentence for possession of sexually explicit material of a minor under 12. He had served approximately four months of the sentence. Lewis's full sentence was five years but part of the sentence was suspended.

A state police spokesman said the death isn't considered suspicious.

Nonetheless, state police and medical examiner were both notified, consistent with department policy. A corrections spokeswoman says both are reviewing the death.
