Maine Unemployment Claims Up 2% In Past Week

Maine officials say 1,401 people filed first-time claims for state unemployment benefits last week.  That's up 2% from the week before. Some 1,200 Mainers filed claims for the federally-funded "Pandemic Unemployment Assistance" benefits.  Those benefits go to freelancers, gig economy workers, and others who don't qualify for state unemployment benefits.
