MaineHealth Offering 4 Weeks Paid Parental Leave

Maine’s largest private employer says it will offer eligible full- and part-time workers four weeks of paid parental leave starting Oct. 1.

“That provides our employees that additional support and bonding time and more flexibility upon the arrival of their new addition,” says MaineHealth spokeswoman Kathleen Taggersell. “We want to attract and retain and a talented workforce, and this helps us remain competitive not just with other companies in Maine but with other health care companies in Maine and across the country.”

Portland-based MaineHealth, which operates hospitals and health care facilities around the state, employs more than 19,000 people.

Some of the state’s other largest employers, including Hannaford Supermarkets and L.L. Bean, also offer some type of paid parental leave benefit.
