AUGUSTA, Maine - Republicans in the Maine Legislature today nominated a Democrat and two Republicans to fill the state's so-called "constitutional officer" posts, which include attorney general, secretary of state and state treasurer. Those who hold those offices are elected by lawmakers.
GOP leaders say during a joint caucus of House and Senate Republicans, William Logan was nominated to serve as attorney general. Logan is an attorney with the firm Irwin, Tardy & Morris, and has represented the Republican Party on several matters.
Republicans also nominated former Senate Majority Leader Jonathan Courtney to be secretary of state. Courtney has served four terms in the Maine Senate and one in the House.
For state treasurer, Republicans nominated Democratic Rep. Teresa Hayes, who's currently serving her third term in the House, where she once served as assistant minority leader.
Democrats are sticking with their incumbents: Attorney General Janet Mills, Secretary of State Matt Dunlap and State Treasurer Neria Douglass.
The full Legislature will meet tomorrow to determine who will fill the three posts.
