Moose Hunt Winding Down

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ The Maine moose hunt is ending in northern Maine.

The part of the hunt that is limited to wildlife management district in the northern part of the state ends Saturday. The hunt in certain wildlife districts in southern, central and coastal Maine runs until Nov. 28.

State officials say hunters should consult with authorities before hunting. Hunters need a permit and are limited to one moose per year.

Previous moose hunting sessions elsewhere in the state took place in September and October.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife issued 2,740 moose permits this year _ the fewest permits in 12 years. Biologists say parasites have culled the moose population in recent years.
