The Maine Principals' Association is giving the nod to high school sports.

The Association’s Interscholastic Committee voted unanimously Thursday to accept earlier guidance from the Sports Medicine Committee that all fall sports could be safely played during the pandemic.

State health officials might have the final say on the plan.

Maine Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner, Jeanne Lambrew said Thursday that her department would also offer 'guidance' to the MPA.

"Including on whether or not it’s compliant with our underlying policies and raising other questions and concerns we may have, because our job is to work with stakeholders to make sure that what they produce for guidance works with the state of Maine."

Camden Hills Regional High School, and at least two other schools, have already decided not to proceed with interscholastic sports due to continued threats from COVID-19.
