NJ Man Picked to Lead University of Southern Maine

PORTLAND, Maine — The University of Southern Maine has a new president.

Harvey Kesselman is currently the Provost and Executive Vice President of Stockton University in New Jersey.

Kesselman says Stockton has faced similar challenges to USM in recent years, with budgetary shortfalls, declining traditional age students, and lagging retention rates.

"The foundation of our success at Stockton was that we always worked together - not just on the ideas themselves, but on the implementation, review, and refinement of those ideas," he says.

Kesselman was selected by a 14-member committee of students, staff, faculty, the board of trustees, and community leaders. He will officially take his post July 1.
