AUGUSTA, Maine — A New York City man who orchestrated drug trafficking in Maine from behind bars even after he was arrested has been sentenced to spend six years in prison.
Mark Anthony Hilliard was sentenced Wednesday in Kennebec County Superior Court after pleading guilty to aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and trafficking in scheduled drugs. The 32-year-old Hilliard, of the Bronx, was also sentenced to four years of probation.
The Morning Sentinel reports that Hilliard was originally arrested in Maine in June 2013. Authorities say he was bringing heroin, crack cocaine and oxycodone pills from New York for sale in Maine. Prosecutors say he continued to orchestrate drug deals from behind bars after his initial arrest.
Hilliard's attorney, Scott Hess, said he had no comment on the case.
