Far-southwestern Maine could see as much as 17 inches of snow before this two pronged storm ends Tuesday.
To the north the heaviest snow will occur along a band from Sanford through Portland, Bangor, Millinocket, Houlton and Caribou, with the National Weather Service predicting 9 to 10 inches and some forecasts ranging to 13 inches.
Heavy snowfall rates could lead to hazardous driving conditions. National Weather Service meteorologist Todd Foisy in Caribou says snow will start picking up Monday evening in southwestern Maine, including Portland and the Lewiston/Auburn area, and intensify through the night.
“For the Bangor area snow's going to be picking up around midnight, becoming pretty heavy as we head towards the morning rush hour,” says Foisy. “For northeastern Maine, like northeastern Aroostook County, the crown of Maine, it doesn't really get going until 8 or 9 am on Tuesday.”
Foisy says there will be less snow in the west and a mix downeast.
He says the quick-hitting storm should end Tuesday afternoon in southwestern Maine and tomorrow evening up towards Aroostook County.
