Police: Man Robbed Bank, Used Oblivious Dad As Getaway Driver

LEWISTON, Maine - Police in Maine say a man robbed a bank while using his unwitting father as a getaway driver. An affidavit written by a police detective says Keith Tilton dropped his 39-year-old son, Joseph Donald Tilton, at a Lewiston bank Tuesday afternoon with the understanding that Joseph was cashing a check. Police say Joseph was actually robbing the bank. Keith then drove his son to a different part of Lewiston and dropped him off before returning home.

The Sun Journal reports Joseph Tilton is accused of stealing $620. Police arrested him on felony robbery charges. He appeared in court Wednesday.

Keith Tilton wasn't charged. Police say they don't think he knew what was going on at the time.

Joseph Donald Tilton's attorney, Richard Charest, didn't return a call seeking comment.
